Turkey: Excise duties rise 35%

 

As decided by the Turkish Council of Ministers, taxes for beer in Turkey have increased by 35%, setting the excise duty impact for a 1 litre volume of beer with 5% alcohol content at 1.75 Turkish Lira.  The new rates entered into force following their publication in the Turkish Official Gazette of 31 December 2009.

 

Since the excise duty of beer was previously increased by 9.2% on 14 April 2009, the excise duty was raised for the second time during the course of 2009.  The new rate is 35 Lira / °alcohol / hectolitre, i.e. approximately 16 Euro
